Battery on the AeroGarden Classic and Deluxe

Most (but not all) AeroGarden Classic and Deluxe models have a backup battery that helps the AeroGarden remember its settings in the event of a power outage. This battery is located in a small compartment on the bottom of the AeroGarden.

If the AeroGarden mysteriously reverts to the Tomato/Pepper setting (and has NOT been unplugged or experienced a power outage with associated power surge), then chances are the battery is dead. The battery lasts about 6 months after activation, and can be replaced with any brand CR2032 3-volt lithium watch battery.

Note: A limited number of later-model Classic AeroGardens have an internal circuit that holds the settings without a battery. If your AeroGarden Classic has a battery compartment with no battery, do not worry… the settings will be held by the internal circuit.

When the power goes off unexpectedly with an associated power surge (such as during a thunderstorm), the AeroGarden may lose its programming even though it has a good backup battery. If this has happened, the AeroGarden will also revert back to the Tomato/Pepper default settings, and will not stay on any other setting.

To correct this you will need to perform a "factory reset", a simple procedure that will usually restore the AeroGarden’s ability to hold its settings:

AeroGarden Classic or Deluxe – Factory Reset

1. UNPLUG the AeroGarden.
2. Remove the Bowl and set aside, remove the Lamp Hood, and turn the AeroGarden upside down on its side.
3. Open the little door on the bottom of the AeroGarden, and remove the battery.
4. Plug the AeroGarden back in.
5. Put the battery back in.
6. The AeroGarden is now reset, and will maintain its settings.

If your AeroGarden is going to be unplugged for more than a couple of days (such as if it is going to be in storage for any length of time), we recommend removing the battery so as not to drain it.
