Part of the magic of the AeroGarden is that its lights have been engineered to provide the optimal intensity and spectrum of light for the very high light requirements of outdoor plants such as tomatoes, herbs, lettuce and flowers. As those who have tried to grow herbs, annual flowers or tomatoes indoors will have experienced, ordinary lights do not provide sufficient light.
AeroGarden Grow Bulbs are high-intensity compact fluorescents of a unique spectrum, and they are not interchangeable with other bulbs. Like all compact fluorescents bulbs, however, they do begin to degrade in intensity over time, and the intensity and spectrum of light must be maintained at high levels for vigorous plant growth and fruit and flower production. For these reasons, we recommend replacing your Grow Bulbs every six months.
AeroGarden Grow Bulbs are guaranteed for six months. If they should malfunction within that time, please call AeroGrow Customer Service at 1-800-476-9669.
If your plants are taller than 2" high and you are waiting for a replacement Grow Bulb to arrive, we recommend that once a day you switch the good bulb to the opposite side so that your plants will receive even light as they grow. Always unplug your AeroGarden before removing or replacing a Grow Bulb.
Spent Grow Bulbs can now be recycled for free at any Home Depot store (as can any compact fluorescent bulb).
Resetting the "Replace Bulbs" Light
To reset the Replace Bulbs light (if replacing Grow Bulbs before or after they are due):
Unplug the AeroGarden and replace the bulbs
Press and hold the "Lights" button until it the LED light next to "Replace Bulbs" flashes
Press Reset
NOTE: This is for resetting the grow bulb replacement cycle if the bulbs are being replaced before or after the 6 month timer goes off. If the light is blinking the customer only needs to press and release the "Reset" button quickly to reset the timer.
