Manager of Sales Planning and Merchandising

AeroGrow International, Inc., makers and marketers of the AeroGarden line of products, has an opening for a Manager of Sales Planning and Merchandising. The position is on a temporary full-time basis, beginning in December and running through May, 2010.

The Position

  • Supports the Retail business unit, requiring excellence in gathering, formatting, and analyzing data. The position requires the ability to think critically, link data to the business needs, and produce timely, accurate data with top-line analysis for management.
  • Coordinate special promotions, meetings, trade shows and launches
  • Sales department administrative support and assorted project management

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Assume responsibility for retail presentation. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring store set up, third party merchandising services, design and implementation of both Point of Purchase displays, as well as in store education pieces such as video loops, take-one brochures, etc. Involves working closely with marketing, purchasing, sales, reps and key national accounts on needs assessment, budgets, timelines, etc.
  • Trade Show Management. Be responsible for details on each show, managing the trade show booth layout and execution (with input from marketing), attendance, samples/products, establishing objectives, recapping results and follow-up steps. Does require some travel.
  • Trade Show/Customer advertising. Establish objectives with sales and marketing management, establish a budget, work with graphics/marketing on all details and be the contact for all publications.
  • Assistant on the Sales Planning and New Item Development team. Participate on the product development team and on the launch needs when it is time to launch (what is needed, by when, to whom…sell sheets, sample coordination, costing and pricing, etc.) This job is not only representing sales needs at meetings, but doing much of the "around the halls" between meetings work to get things done.
  • Gather and produce point of sale data for a panel of our top customers on all SKU's
  • Work in collaboration with finance and marketing on operational budgets, spending and trends to find under and over spending.
  • Support manufacturer's reps and national accounts.
  • Fulfilling sample requests, vendor signup protocol, supplying info and images on product to the field, etc.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

We would like a person with that special combination of service attitude (clear, open communication, flexible and open to ideas, confident), entrepreneurial nature (takes initiative with little or no direction, owns the project start to end with little or no direction, track and multi-task all parts), and strong technical skills:

  • Excel Proficiency – programming formulas, sorting, merging, pivot tables, etc.
  • Power Point proficiency
  • Accuracy & high attention to detail
  • Efficiency

Education/Experience Required:

  • College degree preferred
  • Prior sales support preferred but not required
  • Prior trade show support/management preferred
